Our Story - Ferrets!
Hi,
I have had a few pets in my lifetime. I can't remember ever being without a much loved pet. A few years ago our beautiful Dolly left us. He was a 6yr old Bullmastiff (yes Dolly was a He.. long story). Not long after that our sweet little Franklyn left us. He was a pied rat. Beautiful animal.
Then one day my husband & I decided to get a ferret. We got one from our local pet shop & that's when we discovered our true love! Since then we have joined the NSW Ferret Welfare Society. We now have a total of 4 wonderful companions. The last 3 came from the RSPCA in not the best condition. A lot of money later & we still have our George going through vet care, but worth every bit. We have been lucky enough to get quite a few stray, abused & surrendered ferrets. We love them, spoil them & generally give them the best life a ferret could want!
We then try to match them with a loving home that will continue to give them all the attention & love they need. I miss them when they go to their new home & often I cry, but it is so rewarding to know that there are good people out there who want to give a home to these precious little fuzzies.
It's funny but even though we got our Ralph at the pet shop, I am a strong advocate of NO ANIMALS IN PET SHOPS! I've seen to many ferrets sold to people who have no idea what they're taking on & most pet shop owners don't care. They end up being dumped, but with luck, we'll end up with them.
I have done talks at the Newcastle & Somersby RSPCA on the care & feeding of ferrets. It was great to dispel a lot of the myths. My ambition would be to have a ferret refuge on the Central Coast NSW. It's amazing how a pet can bring out so much in a person.
I love all animals but to me a ferret is IT! As my husband says... dogs have masters... cats have servants and Ferrets have tragics.
