Our Story - Trixie
We have been searching the net looking for a small female dog on and off over the past 14 months. Most of the little ones, however, are males or had been taken before I had a chance to apply for them.
Then a few weeks ago, I saw a little terrier cross girl on the Broome SAFE site. She had the most pleading look on her face, so I contacted them and said I was interested in her.
I discovered that she was quiet and used to kids, which was great! However, when asked if I would like to view her I had to say no, as I live near Kojonup down south of WA, a bit far to travel no matter how cute she looked really.
All the same, the lady asked me some questions and had me fill in an application and then sent me some more photos. (I told the kids it was our friends’ new little doggy. They both oo’d and aa’d and said how cute she was.
With this, I rang the contact in Broome and said that I'd really love her, and that I had three acres for her to play on, and a female Labrador she would also have as a friend.
To my surprise, the lady in Broome informed me that she would be able to be flown as close as Albany free of charge, via Qantas to Perth, then after an hour catch a conecting flight on Skywest to arrive safe and sound and a little unsure in Albany! All free thanks to the two airlines and freight. (I have emailed them my deepest gratitude and told them to keep up the good work, as it gave this little dog a new chance).
Trixie, as we have named her, is so adorable and has fitted in really well.
Chloe’s Story
While going through the rescue pages on the Dogzonline forums I saw the most gorgeous doggie looking for a home, at Domestic Animal Services in Canberra (pound), also a link on the Operation Toby site. She was a Spaniel / Beagle cross.
With us being in Western Australia, it took a team effort with a lot of help from people on Dogzonline in Canberra. I paid for her over the phone and then someone collected her and fostered her untill we got her on a plane for Perth. Then another person involved in rescue picked her up in Perth and put her on a plane for Albany where we collected her from, about 17 days after we first saw her online.
Chloe, as we have named her, was handed in for re-homing because she apparently barked and pulled clothes off the line. However, she hasn’t done any such thing since she has been here. She is a very loyal doggie to us already.
Tink’s Story
I was browsing through the link from Operation Toby to the Stirling pound in Perth and saw this poor little scruffy long-haired, matted, sort of Maltese.
I rang the pound and the scruffy Maltese turned out to be a poodle! Ahe hadn’t even been looked at by anyone coming to the pound for a new pet because of the condition she was in. Poor little thing.
I paid for her over the phone and rang my fantastic friend in Perth who was there the next day to collect her on my behalf. On seeing the dog’s woeful condition, my friend dropped to her knees and cried. Tink had been roaming the streets and was handed in. She had almost died from starvation; her condition was appalling.
My friend took her home and spent two days teaching her to could walk again and clipping all her matted fur off; over a kilogram of it. Tink weighed just under four kilograms without it. A week later she was well enough to travel, and is the most loving, giving little dog I have ever met.
We now we have three rescued dogs, all females, they all get on very well and are the most lovable pooches yet.
